Hello!

I like to think of the art of doll-making as inspiring and calming. I fill each doll I make with love, and hope that this loving energy will carry through to the people who bring my dolls into their families. Welcome to my journal, where I share my creative adventures. Hope you have a pleasant stay!

A Girl in the Meadow

A Girl in the Meadow

“Look here!” cried Sasha, pulling and twisting several buttercups from the ground. “If you hold these flowers against your nose, your nose becomes yellow!”
“Yep, and so can your cheeks and dimpled chin!”  I laughed, running after her with a whole bunch of buttercups.
“If this flower were to grow ten times bigger, so I could hide in it, would I glow yellow all over? And maybe confuse some butterflies who would think I’m just another buttercup??” I couldn’t stop myself from smiling.  “Who says you even need such a big flower?” I said,  “You look like a gorgeous flower yourself!”
“Am I really that pretty?”  Sasha asked with a spark of mischief in her dark brown eyes.
“You definitely are, my sunny girl! But don’t turn your nose up too high.”
“I know, I know!” Sasha laughed and raised her eyes to the blue sky. She stayed looking up for some time, until the rolling clouds covered the sun…
“Can you make me a dress like this sky? A little stormy like my soul?”  Sasha asked. “ And maybe a cozy sweater as green as emerald….? and… maybe a long linen pinafore with a big pocket for holding little treasures I find on my long walks in the meadow? Would it be too much of a hassle?”

Do you think I could resist?

Sasha couldn’t settle down for a while - she was too excited. She opened the piano and began to play an old lullaby, one that I used to sing to her when she was just born.

Deep in the meadow, under the willow
A bed of grass, a soft green pillow
Lay down your head, and close your eyes
And when they open, the sun will rise…
(Lullaby)

Since birth, Sasha has been living in a small town surrounded by a buttercup meadow, finding delight in wild flowers, birds, bees and butterflies. She has studied every little hill on that meadow and every corner of her town, and now she is getting ready to see the world and meet her new family.

Sasha is a mischievous child - a little impulsive, willful and passionate. She has some kind of rebellious spirit in her, but a little tenderness and patience could change her into a gentle and loving girl.

Sasha is a 17” doll, made with swiss jersey and stuffed with a sweet-smelling eco-wool from Oregon. Her face is needle-sculpted, her eyes - embroidered, and her hair - made with beautiful long Teeswater locks, crocheted into the mohair wig. Her hair can be gently styled, but not brushed.

Sasha will come wearing a gorgeous summer dress, made with silk and swiss-embroidered cotton insertions, a long linen pinafore with a little wooden owl on the front, a pair of cotton underwear, and Mary Jane shoes, sewn from Liberty print and wool.

Sasha is not recommended as a toy due to the delicacy of her hair and many little parts of her wardrobe. She will be a wonderful companion to an older child or a grown up who’s a child at heart.
